Think Before You Link!

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Many have heard the time-honored saying that if something sounds too good to be true than it probably is. This is the mindset that should be taken into consideration when forming a proper inbound linking strategy. There are easy ways to accrue a large amount of inbound links to a site overnight, without much effort, and that is why it is falls in the realm of “Black Hat SEO“. It may seem tempting to take the shortcut and participate in link farming or linking to sites which have no relevance to your content. Instead of looking for quality links, it is much easier to be a blog comment spammer and guestbook spammer placing a trail of irrelevant links to your site. Please though, do not be a “lazy linker!” Proper inbound linking strategy is just that: strategy.  It takes time and involves thought as to how you will attain quality inbound links.

Some Thoughts on Google’s New Model: Preferred Cost Bidding

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Google recently announced the release if its Preferred Cost Bidding model, which is said to be “a new way to manage the costs of your AdWords ads.”  According to the news releases on the subject, the new model will be an effective way for those advertisers who don’t have a whole lot of time to devote to their SEM campaign to manage their spends.  According to Google’s AdWords Help Center, under the preferred cost bidding model, “You select the average price you’d like to pay per click (a preferred CPC bid) or per thousand impressions (a preferred CPM bid). The AdWords system then automatically works to hit this target price.”  This is in contrast to the typical model, where advertisers set a minimum and maximum bid that they are willing to pay for a click.

Wow! The First Online Presidential Debates

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

How cool would it be to have an online presidential debate in the 2008 Presidential Campaign?!! Yahoo and Huffington Post plan to host two presidential debates during the 2008 campaign. These interactive debates will be available on three different websites and will allow voters to ask questions as well as evaluate the candidates’ performance.  With the implementation of an online presidential debate, Americans are able to be more closely connected to the electoral process than ever before. This will not only change aged traditions in this process, but will also greatly integrate technology with politics.

Google tests new SERP format

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Recently, while performing a fairly routine search on Google, something caught my eye.  My results were being fragmented into what are being called “Google categories.”  As other blogs have pointed out, these results are prompted by broad keyterms like DVD players and lawn care.  Our example shows these results are also prompted by a product model number.

SES 2007 | NY | Day Four

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Final day of SES NY 2007. There was a stronger crowd in attendance for the final sessions then I would have expected. A web-designer in the very last sessions was getting rather heated in her frustration with some of the material; why I have no idea? She’s actually my quote for the day (keep reading).

SES 2007 | NY | Day Three

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

The mental and physical fatigue was very apparent on the group as a whole today. Those I witnessed in earlier breakouts engaging in intense question and answer sessions remained rather quiet today. As a collective group, everyone was quietly absorbing the material being presented. It might also have something to do with the scheduled 6-7p Networking Cocktail Reception in the Exhibit Hall from last night; doubtful though.

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Either there are a lot more people here today or I was in the wrong sessions yesterday. Now I know what you are thinking “should have gotten there earlier and not 10 minutes into the presentations…” I was busy taking photos of all the participants checking out our very cool booth. If you are reading this every morning to stay up to date on all the happenings at SES 2007, and you are actually here stop by and check us out - booth 2014.
