How cool would it be to have an online presidential debate in the 2008 Presidential Campaign?!! Yahoo and Huffington Post plan to host two presidential debates during the 2008 campaign. These interactive debates will be available on three different websites and will allow voters to ask questions as well as evaluate the candidates’ performance. With the implementation of an online presidential debate, Americans are able to be more closely connected to the electoral process than ever before. This will not only change aged traditions in this process, but will also greatly integrate technology with politics.
Charlie Rose, an interviewer and journalist from the PBS Charlie Rose show, is to host these first online presidential debates. “We intend for these debates to be a groundbreaking mix of old and new traditions in politics,” stated Charlie Rose.
Candidates will be able to participate in these debates from any location they would like, while voters are able to ask questions in real time, as well as blog on how well they believe the candidates are responding. There will be two debates, one for Republican candidates and the other for Democratic candidates.
Not only is the emergence of the first online presidential debate a great step forward in technology, but it is also a way to get the younger generation more involved in an event that they might not have been as eager to participate in, or better yet, spectate in the past. This is a good way to engage a generation that retrieves a lot of their information and spends so much of their time online.
