MySpace vs. Facebook. Let the Battle Begin!

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

I’ll admit it – I am one of the 24 million members of Facebook. I joined Facebook after I graduated to keep in contact with a younger sibling still in college whose only form of communication at the time seemed to be on Facebook. I didn’t really want to join – the thought of having another site to check seemed annoying. But something happened – I got hooked on it.  It’s neatly organized and easy to navigate. As an avid picture taker, my favorite application is the picture section that gives the user the ability to tag people and have people tag themselves. Also, with the applications recently released, you can now add Flickr and other photosharing site streams to your profile. Recnetly, Facebook has been gaining popularity - since it opened up to more than just college users, it has enjoyed a flood of new users, boosted further by the launch of the new Facebook platform.

iPhone: Phoning Home A Victory?

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Here we are in 2007 and we’re just now getting to the good stuff. True, we’ve yet to make hover boards like those featured in Back To The Future Part II almost 20 years ago, but the evolution of a pocket-sized computer is a significant step forward. The conference’s wrap up day had another good agenda.  Topics ranging from managing brands with search to thinking about search globally.  The most interesting session I attended was the Intersection of Social Media and Search.  Social media seems to be the biggest topic in the space today as the evolution of Web 2.0 continues and refines.  There was a great panel collected to discuss the topic:

Steve Marder – CEO Eurekster
Lee Odden – TopRank Online Marketing
Bill Flitter – VP Marketing Pheedo

Search Insider Summit :: Day 2

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

There was more discussion concerning the future of the search space and how to make sense of all the recent acquisition activity.  Jordan Rohan of RBC Capital Markets was the keynote speaker for the Tuesday session and provided a good look into the search marketplace from an investment perspective.  I thought he did a tremendous job summarizing the dynamic marketplace as it sits today.  Here are the highlights from his presentation:

Search Insider Summit :: Day 1

Monday, May 7th, 2007

For those of you who have been to SES conferences in the past, there are definitely distinct differences at the Search Insider Summit. The first observation is the number of people. This conference is definitely more intimate. My second observation is the audience. There is a higher ratio of marketers in the audience which adds a different dimension to the conversation and speaker agendas. My last observation is the content. As the SES conferences have a variety of tactical and skill level sessions, this conference leans towards the strategic. It’s been an interesting first day; here are some of the highlights. (more…)
