Latent Semantic Indexing: Is Keyword Density Still Our Target?

I’m sure we’ve all wrecked our brains before trying to fit keywords into our content in order to achieve a certain keyword density percentage. Well, this type of thinking might be a thing of the past now that search engines are incorporating latent semantic indexing into their algorithms.

Latent semantic indexing (LSI) is a concept in which the search engines look at your content as a whole to determine relevancy, while not relying solely on the number of times a keyword is utilized on a page. So stuffing keywords into your content may not benefit you as much as you would like, because the search engines are getting smarter and smarter by the minute.

Yahoo! Officially Launches Search Assist

Yahoo! announced today that they are officially launching their new Search Assist feature as well as a universal result set similar to that of Google and Ask.

Search Assist is intended to help searchers by offering suggestions as they key in their search terms. Yahoo has found that 15% of searchers find what they are looking for in their first attempt. By offering suggestions based on search history as well as real-time search activity on their site, Yahoo believes they can help their users improve on that 15% success rate.
