Google and GE Team Up on Renewable Energy

Alternative energy has been a popular topic lately as gas prices rise and resources become scarcer. Google and GE aren’t waiting for the government to find a solution. They are tasking themselves with a new initiative outside of search engines and home appliances. That task being, to develop a renewable energy source that can be implemented nationwide. It may seem like the job is out of scope for the two companies, but it makes sense considering they house some of the brightest minds in innovation and engineering.

Web Reference Building for Local Business Listings

I found it interesting in a recent article posted on Search Engine Land that web references for local business listings can enhance the visibility of your local business listing, especially on Google.  Many local business owners strive to get their local listing within the Google OneBox; after all, this is great exposure. The problem comes when you try and try and just can’t get there.

“Other” Is a Leading Source In Local Search

According to comScore, there are only two local search sites that capture more than 20% of the local search market share — YellowPages.com and SuperPages.com. Two more sites, when combined, capture just over 30% market share — Yahoo and Google.  And the fifth largest local search site? …that would be the hundreds of thousands of “other” local search sites.  “No way!” you say, but it’s true!

Google’s G1 Phone Launched

Move over, iPhone–the Gphone has arrived. After months of Internet-fueled speculation and hype, T-Mobile Tuesday unveiled the G1 mobile phone powered by Google’s Android operating system and bundled with Google software including search, Gmail, Maps, and YouTube.

Land-line Phones: A Dying Breed?

Hard-wired phones may increasingly become a victim of the tightening U.S. economy as consumers look for new ways to cut spending.
A new Nielsen Mobile study indicates that one in five U.S. wireless households could be wireless-only by the end of 2008. Already 20 million households, or 17%, have abandoned land-line phones in favor of mobile technologies. That’s up from only 8.5% in 2005!
