Yellowbook recently formed a distribution partnership with YouTube. The partnership will allow Yellowbook a much greater reach with their video enhancements. It should be interesting to see if this partnership allows Yellowbook to gain some ground on YellowPages.com and Superpages.com when it comes to market share. The greater reach these videos are expected to achieve will be especially enticing to small businesses.

FCC Approves White Spaces Initiative

Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission approved the “white spaces” initiative to open up the airwaves for greater access to broadband internet. This comes after a much heated four year debate over whether using these spaces for internet signals would cause interference with TV signals. The FCC will provide a toll-free number for reporting interference and plans on requiring software patches for the lower levels in white space devices that might cause interference.

Changing the Face of Advertising Platforms

It was big news a year ago when Facebook began to allow advertisements on their popular social networking site. Facebook is now taking advertising to the next level with ”Engagement Ads.” One example is a video ad that allows users to comment on the ad or the people in it. When one person makes a comment on an ad, all their friends on Facebook can see it and make their comments, which will then be seen by all their friends creating a domino effect. So, advertisers take notice, social media advertising has a viral effect!

Mobile Ad Awareness Accelerating

Businesses that have refused to embrace mobile advertising and believed it to be just a fad are in for a rude awakening. A new study states that approximately 4 in 10 Americans recalled seeing an ad on their mobile device between July and September. This is the highest mark mobile advertising has received to date. Text messaging was reported as the most common form of mobile advertising recalled.
