  2. Google Walking a Thin Line

    Tech Crunch is reporting today that Google was just three hours away from having an antitrust lawsuit filed against them by the Justice Department, an action sparked by the proposed Google and Yahoo search advertising deal. Sanford “Sandy” Litvack, who would have been the lead counsel for the government had the lawsuit been carried out, said in the end Google blinked.

  3. Online Shopping Found Strong Activity on Cyber Monday

    Hitwise, Nielsen, and ComScore measured significant growth in online shopping activity on Cyber Monday, a day that has come to be seen as a barometer for the entire holiday season. Their reports suggest e-commerce spending in the U.S. leaped 15 percent year over year while traffic to e-retail sites rose between 5 and 10 percent.

  5. Make Google Your Own Post It Note!

    Just when you thought search couldn’t get any crazier, Google comes along and allows searchers to manipulate their product. In a blog post released yesterday, Google announced this initiative, dubbed SearchWiki, that lets searchers vote up or vote down search results while they are logged into their Google account. Searchers are also given the option to make notes or comment on the search results. Since you are already logged into your Google account, Google will track these votes and adjust your search results the net time you search. Google is also allowing you to see how other searchers are voting on given results.

  6. Yahoo: Changes in Algorithm and Management

    Get ready to see changes in Yahoo’s search engine listings early next week. Search Engine Land just released an announcement from Yahoo, noting that there will be “some changes to [Yahoo's] crawling, indexing and ranking algorithms over the next few days and expect the update will be completed soon.”

    It seems like social media is everywhere, and even if you’re not sure what it is, you’re probably using it in some form or another.  Over the past year Facebook has not only gained viewership and members but has also breached the space of online advertising, trying to successfully mesh the two together. So not only can you communicate with others, you can also find targeted audiences who share your views and could potentially be very valuable consumers of whatever it is you’ve got to sell. This is just a small example of how social media can affect/direct consumers.
