Google Announces Two Changes to Search Results

In an effort to provide more information on a site within the search engine result pages, Google has announced that they will allow longer “snippets,” or more text containing keywords, when users enter queries of three or more words.

Many search engines have started to move towards a system that will offer as much information as possible on a site so that visitors can find the best site for them as quickly as possible. It will also be interesting to monitor whether or not this will encourage more users to enter longer keywords in to their search queries.

More significantly, though, Google also announced the implementation of the Orion technology, which was acquired by Google in 2006. Based on a search query, Orion will return pages of content strongly related to the query and offer additional suggestions of keywords to be searched. This will help the user find the most relevant term as it relates to their search.

When you combine the announcement of Orion being implemented, along with the addition of longer “snippets” when users search using three or more keywords, it becomes clear that Google continues to try to provide the best search experience around.
