A recent article on TechCrunch announced that Facebook will soon allow users to create a custom vanity URL, much like other social networking sites, including YouTube, MySpace and Twitter. The announcement is expected to be made by Facebook later this week.

Local Search Ranking Criteria Survey – Revisited

Last June, I wrote a blog post that outlined the results from the Local Search Ranking Criteria Survey (2008) conducted by David Mihm. Just recently, David Mihm revisited this topic and conducted the survey again. He sent the survey to local search marketing professionals, 27 to be exact. These 27 professionals were asked to rank 49 possible factors that affect local search results on a scale ranging from “very important for ranking well” to “can hurt your ranking/ lead to penalty.” Read the full article…

Click Tracking Modified On Google

It appears as though Google is testing a new click tracking method for their search results. In the past, Google selectively tracked clicks by appending tracking URLs to the search results. Now, it appears as though those tracking URLs are done through JavaScript and are virtually invisible to the end user.

Microsoft to Present Rebranded Search Product

In hopes of bettering their competitive advantage in top tier search engines, Microsoft plans to demonstrate their newest search product, “Kumo” next week in San Diego. This highly anticipated upgrade from Live Search is currently in testing phase to be introduced later this year. Microsoft claims that the new engine will crack Google’s dominance in the search engine community by better organizing search results for consumers searching for information.
