Is it used to gather information, for self promotion, or just for fun? Microsoft and Yahoo Finally Reach a Deal!

It’s a deal! Finally the two search giants have reached a deal in which Yahoo’s search results will be powered by Microsoft’s Bing search engines and Yahoo will continue to sell search ads on its own sites as well as on Microsoft sites. This is a 10-year partnership in which both companies feel will create more innovation in search.

Bing Update: What do Users Think So Far?

JP Morgan just recently came out with a study, which is available to its clients only, on what users feel Bing’s greatest strength is so far. This study was based on a sample of 763 U.S. adults and their search behavior for the month of June, which was Bing’s first month in which it replaced Live Search.

More Talks Between Yahoo and Microsoft

There were reports from Wall Street as of July 17th that Yahoo and Microsoft were very close to agreeing on an advertising and search deal. Although the deal is considered to be “down to the short strokes” according to All Things Digital, Yahoo and Microsoft have been down this road before and no agreement has been reached in the past.

Bing Combines Tweets With Organic Results

The demand for real-time search results is now being answered through a new product called BingTweets. This combined search engine displays real time “Tweets” alongside Bing search engine results. Users also have the option of Tweeting directly from Bing, but before a Tweet is officially posted users are redirected back to Twitter to confirm the post.

Google Enhances Local Search Results

In their latest round of improvements to their Google Maps product, Google has announced they will be displaying images in their SERPs along side the maps results for some geographic-based searches. This move has been pegged by Google as an update that benefits the user in that there are now images associated with the location to paint a clearer picture of its appearance.

Google More Relevant Than Bing According to Study

Citigroup conducted a study comparing 200 queries on Google, Yahoo and Bing. The study found that Google is much more relevant than Bing, in returning relevant results. Google returned the most relevant result 71 percent of the time, compared with Bing at 49 percent of the time and Yahoo 30 percent of the time.
