The demand for real-time search results is now being answered through a new product called BingTweets. This combined search engine displays real time “Tweets” alongside Bing search engine results. Users also have the option of Tweeting directly from Bing, but before a Tweet is officially posted users are redirected back to Twitter to confirm the post.
This new product brings up a lot of assumptions about how real-time search is in high demand among search engine users. In a recent Search Engine Land article, Barry Schwartz notes that “…if this service becomes something popular and Microsoft deems it as useful, they may integrate this directly into the default Bing experience.” Bing may be catching onto something that Google hasn’t tried yet, and if it becomes successful, other major engines may follow suit.
