  1. Web References vs. Links: Could Web References Help Websites?

    Terri Greene

A while back I wrote a post on web references and their importance to local listings. Well, it may also be true that references not only help local listings but also assist websites in ranking for relevant keywords within search results. Web references were looked at in the sense that they were to local listings as links were to websites, according to the David Milm Local Search Ranking Factors survey. However, web references as well as inbound links could both help your website to be viewed more favorably by search engines. Read the full article…

  2. Virtual Goods Identify Brand Advocates on Social Sites

    Cory Grassell

By now, we’re all aware of the phenomenal growth social networks are experiencing. Social media sites are now gathering places for millions of consumers, who frequent this interactive space on a daily basis to interact about any topic of interest. Among those topics is your brand.

Businesses are beginning to realize the potential that social media can have on their marketing efforts, including building brand awareness, monitoring brand perception and understanding customer needs. In the past, marketers could select among a few specific media channels to reach a target audience. Enter the Internet. Marketers responded by developing banner ads targeted to customers. Even social media banner ads that are based on behavioral and demographic data are proving ineffective. Consumers have become so immune to the presence of banner ads that such advertising is becoming influential and falling short of expected ROI projections. In fact, banner ads on social platforms are only seeing an average click-through rate of .04 percent. Read the full article…

  4. Dear Google, We’re Changing SEO. Sincerely, Bing-Yahoo!

    Cory Grassell

Just when you had a grasp on search engine optimization, reports are that the impending Microsoft-Yahoo! partnership could shake things up. Why? Because Bing differs from Google and Yahoo! in the way it ranks pages and presents search results. This is causing online marketers to keep a close watch on SEO in time for the Bing-Yahoo! merger in 2010. At that time, Yahoo! “will make the switch to Bing’s organic search results in the third quarter of next year, and then fold in Bing’s paid search results soon after,” reported AdAge.com.

  6. Coupons for those that don’t clip coupons

    Jamie LeRoy

I came across an interesting article today that Greg Sterling  wrote about mobile coupons and how facebook apps like, “LivingSocial Deals,” are popping up everywhere.  And it’s not that the article brought up some fascinating new concept (mobile coupons, now that’s crazy!!!) but it did point out some interesting facts about the age group most likely to use these coupons. That would be the age group that doesn’t live with their parents (for the most part) but do attempt to save a buck or two while they save up for their first mortgage payment, wedding, or dog, otherwise known as the 25-34 year olds.

  7. Possible Wikipedia Changes on the Horizon: Color Trust Indicators

    Quinn Sheek

Wikipedia, the largest and most popular online encyclopedia, could have some major changes on the horizon. It is common knowledge that Wikipedia content isn’t always 100% accurate purely because of the nature of user-generated content. However, the online resource has gained a significant level of trust from search engines and online users, making it more common to use Wikipedia as a trusted information source.
