Tis the Season for Mobile Applications

A smartphone is definitely something everyone should have on their wish list this holiday season if it isn’t already.  With the increasing popularity of smartphones, and technology becoming more and more advanced, applications for mobile devices such as the iPhone have made it possible for users to do just about anything these days, even their holiday shopping. According to a recent survey conducted by Deloitte, one in five shoppers intend to use their smartphones to shop this holiday season.

The creation of mobile apps has not only made it more convenient for consumers to do their shopping, but it has also given thrifty consumers the opportunity to find the “best bang for their buck.” Popular apps like ShopSavvy, RedLaser, The Find, ShopStyle and PriceGrabber allow consumers to find the best bargains on the “must have gifts”.  Consumers can scan a product’s bar code to compare prices across a range of retailers, all in a matter of seconds and at the touch of a button.

Since the economy is continuing to struggle, even retailers have extended their marketing efforts to include mobile. Stores like Best Buy have been honoring the price comparisons consumers find through these apps.  Ebay’s iPhone app sends users notifications if they are outbid and lets them check out with just a few clicks if they have a PayPal account.  These apps are especially important to companies like eBay since mobile shoppers are estimated to spend $500 million on eBay this year alone, according to the company.

So save yourself from the long lines and the hustle and bustle of doing your last minute holiday shopping at the mall. Whether you are on the go or in the convenience of your own home, using mobile apps for your holiday shopping is definitely a smart move to make. I made this move, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.  I can only hope every year will be as easy and stress free as this year’s holiday shopping season has been for me.
