This new feature allows content created by your online social contacts to appear within the search results. Google pulls this information from what is present in your Google profile.

Local Topics Now Trending on Twitter

Twitter announced this week that it has launched Local Trends to expose people to what’s happening on state and city levels. According to Twitter’s blog, Local Trends will allow users to learn more about the nuances in the world and discover more-relevant topics that are happening in their areas. For now, about 15 cities and a handful of countries are available. Twitter says that it will add more locations, languages and data over time.

Nielsen’s TV Ratings Will Measure Online Viewers

The Internet earned its reputation of being the most-accountable media for advertising, based on the ability to measure ads, from views to sales conversions. It will become even more measurable next fall when Nielsen releases online television ratings as a complement to its regular TV ratings. The online ratings will be combined with its C3 ratings, which measure TV viewing and three days of DVR viewing. The company will measure viewership from 7,500 of the 12,000 households currently in its National People Meter Sample. Nielsen is in the process of installing Internet meters in those households (expected to be finished by August 2010).

Successful iPhone Applications Drive Revenue

I think we are all familiar with iPhone’s “There’s an App for That” commercials. I used to be amused by the gimmicky applications such as the Zippo lighter, and would show them off to my friends, especially those who didn’t have iPhones. Then I’d get bored and delete them only to download another useless app the very next day. However, with top name businesses getting into the mix, my mindset toward mobile apps has completely changed. I now restrict my iPhone space to applications that are going to serve a purpose and benefit me as a consumer.
