15miles, Awards, PR, SEO
Yesterday, 15miles attended the IAB MIXX Awards to accept an award in the category of Lead Generation for an SEO program implemented for Children International. Hundreds of entrees are submitted to this award show every year, in hopes that they will be recognized for the category of their choosing.
15miles submitted Children International, a non-profit client, as an incredible SEO campaign that managed to beat the odds by increasing child sponsorships and online donations (through their website) in the midst of a down economy. Through SEO alone, 15miles was able to increase website visibility by 58 percent and increase child sponsorships and online donations by 88 percent (which is also a 12 percent increase from last year).
The finalists for the Lead Generation category included:
- Brand: RBC Royal Bank (Proximity Canada)
- Brand: Children International (15miles)
- Brand: MetLife (Neo@Ogilvy)
- Brand: Ford Motor Company (Martha Stewart Living/Omnimedia)
The winners for the category of Lead Generation are as follows:
- Gold: MetLife & Neo@Ogilvy for “2009 Term Life Insurance”
- Silver: RBC Royal Bank & Proximity Canada for “RBC 2009 Campus Campaign”
- Bronze: Children International & 15miles for “Online Donations Up, Economy Down”

We are so pleased to have earned this recognition; it’s an honor. And we’re very proud of the work 15miles did on behalf of Children International.

IYP, Local, Yellow Pages
Before the Internet came along, everybody was using a big book called the Yellow Pages to find local business information. Now, in the digital age, AT&T is looking to reignite some of the past glory for its interactive local search products, particularly YP.com. Their most recent ad campaign connects local search with a higher purpose – the emotions that come with finding the exact thing users search for.

As the weather is changing, so, too, are consumers’ search behaviors. Every year, we monitor changing trends regarding how consumers access information about local businesses, and we release our findings in autumn. Our annual Local Search Usage Study has been conducted (in partnership with comScore), and we’re only a week away from the first, public release of this year’s data. The debut will take place at SMX East between October 4 and October 6.
For all the ways you can access our study results, including a free webinar and a comprehensive white paper, download a complimentary copy of our StraightForward newsletter (September issue).

QR codes are 2D or matrix barcodes that encode text, URLs or other data. These types of barcodes are becoming more popular in advertising as the rise of Smartphone usage continues (Smartphone users are able to download free barcode reading apps in order to scan the QR code from paper, a computer screen, billboards, etc.). To get an idea of Smartphone usage: there were 61.6 million Smartphones sold worldwide in Q2 of 2010 and a quarter of all mobile phone subscribers are Smartphone owners, compared to 16% the same time last year.

If you ask me, transparency into an advertising campaign – or any campaign, really – is never a bad thing. But apparently when Google rolled out requirements for what third party AdWords campaign providers need to provide to their clients late this summer, it caused a considerable amount of panic for some third parties and some skepticism from industry insiders. Why? (And, don’t worry, I asked myself that too). Well, a couple of reasons… Read the full article…

Social Media, Social Networking, Twitter
Twitter has always been proud of representing life in “140 words or less,” but with their new site redesign, it seems life will be getting a little more interesting and less text-only. Last week, Twitter revealed the new features and appearance of their popular social network-microblog website, which will now include a split-pane home page that integrates photos and video directly onsite. The new layout and features are only visible to a random selection of users (increasing daily) and can be turned on/off until it is finalized in the coming months.

POV, Yellow Pages
It’s no secret that patch-work legislation continues to surface in certain states, as well as communities trying to limit publisher distribution of phone books to consumers and businesses. By now, most of us know the following:
- Phone books are in fact made from wood chips and recycled paper, not virgin trees.
- Soy based inks are used to print the directories and very few phone books end up in landfills, thanks to recycling efforts.
- Publishers have created websites giving consumers the option to opt-out from receiving a phone book at their address. In many areas, White Pages residential directories no longer being distributed to the masses. Instead, many publishers offer White Pages phone books as opt-in, only being distributed to consumers who contact the publisher to request a copy.
However, none of this seems to be enough to stop the legislation since “green” has become the Kool-Aid of choice.
