Google: Mobile Domination

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Now that the first quarter 2008 numbers are in, one thing is certain: Google owns mobile search. This news comes after Nielson Mobile released its data on the mobile market. With 61% of the mobile search market cornered, Google dominated the mobile search market the first four months of 2008.

So what can we chalk this domination up to? Google is chalking it up to being the factory default on the iPhone. It seems that while smart phones have been around for awhile now, Google’s data indicates people are searching the internet more with their iPhones than any other smart phone. Who would have guessed a fully supported HTML browser would revolutionize the mobile search marketplace?

Wireless Plans Get Cheaper, Mobile Marketing Becomes More Important

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Starting next week, both Sprint and Verizon will be rolling out plans that will offer mobile Web and mobile TV at cheaper rates.  For example, Sprint will offer 3,000 voice minutes, unlimited messaging and e-mail, unlimited access to the mobile Web, 50 streaming music channels, 25-plus live TV channels, on-demand TV, and unlimited GPS navigation for $169.99 for two lines.

This offering is very exciting and very important if your company has a mobile marketing campaingn.  Think about it, Sprint is offering unlimited access to the mobile Web and on-demand TV.  This means that consumers who sign up for these plans will be using their cell phones tremendously more because the Internet and TV will be literally at the tip of their fingers at all times.  This means that there will be more opportunities for marketers to reach mobile consumers.

Offering unlimited GPS navigation is also important since this will encourage the development of mobile applications that are tailored toward local search such as YellowPages.com’s release of their iPhone application.  This will yet be another opportunity for marketers to reach targeted audiences.

Sporting the first fully supported HTML browser on a phone, we SEOs are salivating at what mobile search can become now that we possibly have a legitimate device that can deliver the Internet to our phones in a presentable and functional manner.
