The importance of reviews and ratings – positive and negative — can’t be overstated in local search. In terms of consumer motivation, it’s all about informing others or rewarding a business for its excellent product/service.

Local Search Lives or Dies by User Reviews

Back in the dark ages, referred to by some as BC (Before Computers), consumer opinions regarding personal experiences with businesses were passed around in a practice known as “Word of Mouth” marketing.

Jane tells Mary about how great her new microwave is, or that the service could have been better at the new restaurant in town. Soon enough, word gets around and sales are up for that microwave, and the service is carefully watched at the new restaurant.

The Internet has transformed word of mouth referrals into “user reviews” and “ratings,” where consumers can comment on and rate products or services that they have purchased or experienced. (more…)

TMP Directional Marketing (TMPDM) was a big winner at Tuesday night’s 2006 Industry Excellence Awards sponsored by the Yellow Pages Association (YPA). YPA’s 2007 “Masters of Transformation” annual conference and exhibition in Las Vegas, NV honored Yellow Pages advertising companies that comprise the $26 billion annual worldwide directory advertising industry.

Think Before You Link!

Many have heard the time-honored saying that if something sounds too good to be true than it probably is. This is the mindset that should be taken into consideration when forming a proper inbound linking strategy. There are easy ways to accrue a large amount of inbound links to a site overnight, without much effort, and that is why it is falls in the realm of “Black Hat SEO“. It may seem tempting to take the shortcut and participate in link farming or linking to sites which have no relevance to your content. Instead of looking for quality links, it is much easier to be a blog comment spammer and guestbook spammer placing a trail of irrelevant links to your site. Please though, do not be a “lazy linker!” Proper inbound linking strategy is just that: strategy.  It takes time and involves thought as to how you will attain quality inbound links.

Wow! The First Online Presidential Debates

How cool would it be to have an online presidential debate in the 2008 Presidential Campaign?!! Yahoo and Huffington Post plan to host two presidential debates during the 2008 campaign. These interactive debates will be available on three different websites and will allow voters to ask questions as well as evaluate the candidates’ performance.  With the implementation of an online presidential debate, Americans are able to be more closely connected to the electoral process than ever before. This will not only change aged traditions in this process, but will also greatly integrate technology with politics.
