Yahoo! again blocks Microsoft’s bid. The Internet media giant extended a deadline for nominating candidates to its board of directors, buying it needs more time to find a white knight to help it stave off Microsoft’s takeover bid, currently valued at $41.7 billion.
Yahoo! has launched a program that will allow marketers to enhance the presence of a listing that appears on a Yahoo! search result. The purpose of this plug-in based program is to enhance the user experience and provide more relevant results for searchers.
Last week it was announced that Microsoft had made a bid to purchase Yahoo! at $44.6 billion. This is not the first attempt to make a bid by Microsoft. Microsoft has officially released a bid of $44.6 billion to acquire Yahoo. The struggling Yahoo stated Friday that they would carefully and promptly review the Microsoft bid. It is no surprise that Yahoo will consider the Microsoft bid as stock prices have fallen by 46% since October and shares have recently reached a four year low.
Yahoo has reported that they are releasing updates to their crawling, indexing, and ranking algorithms. They did not state how long the rollout will take, but they did say it will be “completed soon.” Keep an eye out for changes in the coming weeks.
There have been rumblings about impending Yahoo layoffs and what this could mean for Yahoo as a company, search in general, Yahoo’s stock, etc. Many people believe that announcements will be made when quarterly earnings are reported tomorrow (Tuesday, January 29th). Yahoo has not confirmed that layoffs are coming, nor have they given any indication of how extensive these layoffs will be.
