Imagine, walking into a networking function at a large conference and knowing everyone’s name, job function and company before introducing yourself to a single person… knowing who is looking for a job, looking to hire and knowing who is just set out to network and build relationships… being able to associate faces with names of people you have never met… being able to introduce yourself to several people without actually speaking a word.

With the capabilities of 3G wireless technologies and devices such as the iPhone, this vision could become a reality in the not-so-distant future. Michael Arrington’s blog post on TechCrunch takes this idea even further by envisioning how we might be able to use these technologies in social and day-to-day environments. He also discusses the capability of changing your wireless profile from personal to professional depending on your environment.

So far, there haven’t been any revolutionary social platforms that have created the capabilities mentioned above. Facebook has made a distinctive effort to incorporate their social networking site on the iPhone, but there haven’t been any efforts made to apply GPS technologies. We should all be on the lookout for an existing company or a start up company to take advantage of all that 3G has to offer.
