LeAnn Hoksch
Rumors flew and Twitter was buzzing this weekend with the news that that Google will attempt, yet again, to infiltrate the social media marketplace with its newest service, Google Circles. The major gossip was that Google would launch this new service at SXSW over the weekend; however, rumors were silenced yesterday when SXSW confirmed that Google would not be rolling out Circles at their event. They didn’t, however, deny that Circles exists. SXSW stated “Google has now officially denied that Circles will launch here, but not that it exists.” Read the full article…

Google Promotes Location Reviews By Integrating Twitter
Kelsey Johnson
In an ongoing effort to increase location reviews, Google has introduced a new feature on Google Maps for Android, which gives users the option to post their reviews right to their Twitter page.
A previous update to Google Maps included a new Hotpot rating feature that allows users to share their ratings and reviews with others so they can check them out before visiting that location. The latest version of Google Maps for Android (version 5.2) now further utilizes the Hotpot feature by allowing users to instantly share their location reviews via Twitter. Try to think like a customer. What would make you want to choose your product? What makes you stand out from the competition? Present special offers, and let the consumer know what they will gain by choosing you with a clear call to action. Also try to avoid jargon and abbreviations where possible. Just because you know what something means does not mean that others will. Now that we have quickly covered some of the basics in creative development, here are a couple “public service announcements” about some new Google policies:

You charge too much for SEO…
Steve Haar
We hear this sometimes; my friends with legitimate search firms hear this. I am guessing that JC Penney said this to more than a few firms before they hired SearchDEX. Unfortunately, after seeing results skyrocket, JC Penney is learning that well over 2000 links to their site violate the Google linking guidelines. This unfortunate bit of news was brought to them courtesy of a NY Times article that is also the foundation of Google’s actions to mitigate the effects of the black hat tactics and plummet Penney’s results from 1st position down to 65 or worse for many terms.
