After a couple of tough economic years and highly-guarded marketing budgets, analysts are predicting an upswing in advertisers’ budgets for online media. In fact, according to a report from eMarketer, online ad spending is predicted to increase by more than 10% every year from 2010 to 2014. They also estimate that by 2014, online ad spending will consume the second largest piece of the average marketer’s advertising budget.

‘Tis the Season to Be Search Savvy

Research from Unity Marketing suggests that Gen Y may upset the holiday-card market, potentially spelling the end of printed yuletide greetings. Whether or not you believe greeting cards will fade away, there is validity in the claims that suggest younger consumers are “accustomed to communicating in ways that are much more immediate, efficient, cost effective… They use email, blogs, texts, social media and the like.”
Like other changes affecting the print industry in recent years, this trend will, of course, cause brands like Hallmark and American Greetings to adapt to the digital needs of the marketplace. As we head into the final month of 2010 — marked by the make-or-break season of holiday sales — marketers are taking notice of such needs, as well as notes about how to boost sales in an increasingly interactive marketplace. Reflections on SES San Francisco

I had the opportunity to attend the Search Engine Strategies conference the week of August 16th in San Francisco, and now, approximately a week later, as I review the conference materials, my mess of scribbled notes, and the slew of tweets highlighting those nuggets of information shared by various speakers during the show, I find myself in a reflection mode. What did I learn? What value did I take away from the conference? To sum it up, the key message that I walked away with, is that the space is changing… and QUICKLY, and as marketers, we need to adapt, test, and innovate if we are to help define future strategies. Delta Aims for the Sky With New Facebook Partnership

It looks like flying the friendly skies may have gotten easier for fans of Delta Air Lines, thanks, in part, to a new partnership with Facebook. It was announced yesterday that Delta launched a new “Ticket Window” tool on its Facebook page, which now allows passengers to book flights directly without leaving the social-media site. This move is the first for any major airline, although many airlines have had major success using social-media platforms (i.e., Twitter and Facebook).
