I attended two presentations last week that discussed tools that can be used to gain insight into how user behavior on landing pages can be tracked for optimization purposes; one by Dr. Tal Schwartz and another by Tim Ash. As a psychology major, any way that analyzing how a user behaves on site and using this for optimization purposes, is very interesting to me. They discussed various tools that allow you to analyze behavior using different means such as heat maps, conversion funnels, and form reporting.

The article addressed why multi platform advertising was so key in local search. She touches on the different ways that consumers search for a business across multiple media channels illustrating that there is a perfect solution that fits every advertiser; but through a combination of traditional print, on-line and now increasingly mobile channels a campaign can be designed to fit any advertiser’s needs.

Google Renames Local Business Center

Google decided to change the name of the “Google Local Business Center” to “Google Places.” According to Google the motivation behind the name change is to “better connect Place Pages – the way that businesses are being found today – with the tool that enables business owners to manage their presence on Google”.

Google Rolls Out New Feature: Remarketing

Thursday, Google rolled out a new AdWords PPC feature called Remarketing. Any AdWords advertiser can use the remarketing feature to reach users as they’re browsing the web on sites within the Google Content Network.
Remarketing, a part of Google’s interest based advertising, allows advertisers to re-engage with previous site visitors based on the users’ past interactions on the site. Forrester’s Online Retail Five-Year Forecast

On Monday, Forrester Research released a new forecast predicting that e-commerce sales in the U.S. will grow at a 10-percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the next five years. Not surprising, the online retail growth rate is not as substantial as back in the days of e-commerce adaption, but the double-digit estimated growth serves as a wake-up call to any business that has still not implemented an online marketing strategy.
