  1. Is Search Boring? Google May Think So

    Jamie LeRoy

When charged with finding out the latest and greatest in the search-marketing world, one might be hard-pressed to find anything that’s really newsworthy. Besides the recent merger of Bing and Yahoo!, there hasn’t been a juicy search marketing story to hit the industry in quite some time.

Social media, on the other hand, has no problem staying newsworthy. Whether it’s a new location-based check-in application or a privacy issue, social media is always in the news. Maybe that’s why Google is rumored to be creating its own social network. Google misses the days when it covered the proverbial front pages and was the center of the industry’s attention.

  2. Reflections on SES San Francisco

    Liz Serafin

I had the opportunity to attend the Search Engine Strategies conference the week of August 16th in San Francisco, and now, approximately a week later, as I review the conference materials, my mess of scribbled notes, and the slew of tweets highlighting those nuggets of information shared by various speakers during the show, I find myself in a reflection mode. What did I learn? What value did I take away from the conference? To sum it up, the key message that I walked away with, is that the space is changing… and QUICKLY, and as marketers, we need to adapt, test, and innovate if we are to help define future strategies. 3. Gregg Stewart on ClickZ: Facebook – Places to Go and People to See

    LeAnn Hoksch

Just last month Gregg Stewart outlined some key marketing opportunities that businesses can use via check-in services, mainly foursquare. Although foursquare pretty much pioneered the marketable check-in space, they’ve now got some hefty competition to worry about, i.e. Facebook Places. If this is the first you are hearing about Places, then you are a step behind the rest of the technologically savvy US population. Just last week, Facebook rolled out Places, which is a check-in application that will allow you to tell your friends where you are.

  4. The Launch of Facebook Places

    Erin Oechsner

By now, we’ve all heard about the launch of Facebook’s newest feature, Facebook Places. Similarly to Foursquare, the new application allows users to check in to locations using their mobile device. Each time a user checks in to a location, it will show up on the local business’s Places Page, as well as in the user’s news feed.

  5. Delta Aims for the Sky With New Facebook Partnership

    Jill Jansen

It looks like flying the friendly skies may have gotten easier for fans of Delta Air Lines, thanks, in part, to a new partnership with Facebook.  It was announced yesterday that Delta launched a new “Ticket Window” tool on its Facebook page, which now allows passengers to book flights directly without leaving the social-media site. This move is the first for any major airline, although many airlines have had major success using social-media platforms (i.e., Twitter and Facebook).

  6. Is Social Media Trustworthy? The Results Are In!

    Brittany Meye

It’s easy to tell businesses that social media is an important part of an effective local search campaign, but whether or not consumers are finding this information trustworthy is the real question. eMarketer’s “What Makes Social Media Trustworthy” provides its latest results for social media; it measures the sources and features for which users perceive information to be most trustworthy.

  7. What’s Happening With Twitter?

    LeAnn Hoksch

Twitter, the real-time information network that provides users ongoing engagement with each other, has recently monetized their natural feed through a combination of promoted tweets, trends and even one particular feed (@earlybird) that retweets special offers. Back in April when Twitter began offering these paid placements, some pretty big names signed on, including Sony Pictures, Red Bull, Starbucks and Best Buy.
