  3. Yellow Pages Opt-in Legislation Introduced in California

    Bay-area senator Leland Yee (D-San Francisco) recently introduced a bill known as SB 920 that would reverse a current law requiring telephone companies to automatically deliver White Pages to California homes. In an effort to cut paper waste and save energy, the new legislation would require telephone companies to get consent from customers before delivering White Pages directories to their homes. Yee argues that phone books have become obsolete and wasteful.

  4. R.H. Donnelley Officially Becomes Dex One Corporation

    Not long ago, Idearc announced it had emerged from bankruptcy as the newly restructured, SuperMedia Inc. R.H. Donnelley announced yesterday that it, too, has successfully exited from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection under the new name, Dex One Corporation (it will begin trading on the New York Stock exchange under the ticker “DEXO”).     Idearc recently announced its new name, SuperMedia, to begin the new year. After a well-publicized bankruptcy filing, SuperMedia is looking to start 2010 off on the right foot. CEO Scott Klein stated, “Our new name symbolizes the rebirth of our company, and, along with it, the ability to continue to deliver innovative ways that will change the way in which we help match buyers with sellers.” It also offers more consistency with its most popular brands: SuperYellowpages, Superpages.com, and SuperpagesDirect.

    There is no doubt that 2009 was a challenging year for the Yellow Pages industry. This year, we witnessed two of the largest Yellow Pages publishing companies file for bankruptcy, R. H. Donnelley and Idearc. Many people saw this as the beginning of the end, but, as 2010 approaches, both Yellow Pages publishers are emerging from bankruptcy with new business models in tow, models that rely heavily on incorporating online and digital platforms with their search offerings.
